Since after 4:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 16, road closures have been reported in different parts of the country and agents of the control of crowds of the National Police proceeded to clear some roads, reports La Prensa.


In Pacora, east of the province of Panama, the police cleared the Inter-American Highway, removing the barricades that obstructed the passage. It was reported that it occurred in Sabanitas, Columony, where tear gas bombs were thrown to disperse protesters.


Public transport company Mi Bus reported that it temporarily suspended all service due to closures in several parts of the city.


Panama City


At the roundabout of the Don Bosco sector, in the Chilibre district, and in the sector of Villa Zaíta, in northern Panama, there are roadblocks by groups protesting against mining.


On several roads in Panama and San Miguelito, hundreds of people are seen walking to Metro stations to try to reach their destinations.


The passage through the Trasístmica in front of the University of Panama is still closed. Traffic congested by protests in Villa Lucre and Tumba Muerto is also recorded, at the entrance to Condado del Rey. Likewise on the Centenario road. near Merca Panama; in the vicinity of the bridge of the Americas, in Howard , and in San Cristóbal, Río Abajo.


After 7:15 a.m. they blocked the passage through the Cinta Costera, near the Mercado del Marisco, and Balboa Avenue, in both directions.


The National Highway Company (ENA) reported that the closure of the road above the Puente de Llano Bonito and on the main road, in both directions, is recorded. Drivers are advised to take due precautions.


ENA also reported that protesters closed the road in Torrijos Carter, in both directions. Faced with this scenario they decided to close the accesses to the Corredor Norte and to cut road traffic. Access in the Corredor Sur between Punta Pacífica and the Riande Hotel is also closed.


Other provinces


In the province of Colón, street closures are reported at about six points, including the Cuatro Altos, Villa del Caribe, La Feria and in the vicinity of the Hugo Spadafora polyclinic, in the Correccation of Cristobal Este.


Also in Nuevo Colón (Sabanitas), Río Alejandro, Villa del Carmen, Villa Guadalupe, Cativá, Quebrada Ancha and Batteria 35 on the coast below.


In the sectors of La Pesa and La Espiga de La Chorrera (West Panama) they blocked the passage in both directions.


In the east of Chiriquí and in some points of Veraguas the indefinite closures are maintained.


In Chitré, Herrera province, after 6:30 a.m. protesters closed the road leading from La Arena to the Centro Económico.


There is also the closure of the road at Penonomé's new return, Coclé.


Unions, teachers' unions, workers, peasants and indigenous people announced that on Thursday they would carry out multiple indefinite closures nationwide for 24 hours.


Transportation service


The administration of the public transport service Mi Bus reported this morning that it temporarily suspended service at some points that are closed as on the Trasístmica road in the vicinity of the company Estrella Azul and the University of Panama. Also in Villa Zaíta, Chilibre, Villa Lucre and Avenida 3 de November and the sector of 5 May.


The Panama Metro started operations normally on its two lines from 5:00 a.m.
