The Panama Metro reported on Saturday, August 1, about an incident of cyber security that affected some of its technological infrastructure.
Nevertheless, sources have assured that the service operates normally and that the incident does not conduct operations.
In a statement, the company stated that after identifying the incident, it immediately implemented the mitigation measures with the support of its dedicated computer security team and competent authorities.
The entity indicated that as a preventive measure, it strengthened security controls in its systems to protect technological infrastructure and institutional information.
The case adds to a number of cyber-security incidents that have been reported this year against state institutions.
The Social Security Fund (CSS), the Panama Empreca platform of the Ministry of Trade and Industries (MICI), the Ministry of Health (Minma), the Ministry of Economics and Finance (MEF) and the Office of the Comptroller General of the Republic have reported unauthorized violations or access to their systems during the last few months.
In response to this wave of attacks, the Government, through the National Authority for Government Innovation (AIG), launched this year a Cybersecurity Operations Centre to monitor state networks in real time and issued a resolution requiring all public authorities to implement minimum cyber-security controls, report compliance with these measures and implement corrective plans where vulnerabilities exist.
